7 Day Pandemic Reboot to fight off stress and anxiety

Updated: Jan 4, 2021

This roller coaster ride of 2020 seems to just keep riding on with never-ending ups and downs! I have found a reboot routine that really works and want to share it. It gives me a daily ritual that provides me sanity in key areas of my life and a sense of purpose I have some control over what is going on in my world! The key areas of focus are mental and physical health, relationships, and adventure. Getting in alignment is such a great feeling right now and so hard to do without some sort of discipline and regiment in place.

I use a daily checklist that I keep on my kitchen table while I do any disciplined program and it works very well to keep me conscious of my commitment and not letting me off the hook because it is buried in a phone or computer somewhere not staring at me.

Starting out in the morning I spend 10-15 minutes in quiet without turning on my TV, phone, or computer. I have my coffee and water and just quietly contemplate the day before and day ahead. How was yesterday? What was I grateful for? Did I eat well and workout? Anything pop up for adventure plans? etc. A brief meditation is always nice and I am a fan of this isolation and conscious way of getting my day going.

TV news detoxing is so important to how you are going to feel right now! The news is catastrophizing death and illness constantly. Pounding on our human ability to process a positive outlook. It will take you down a rabbit hole if you stay engaged. Consciously avoid it like the plague. Stay informed but not consumed. Consciously disconnect from social media and your phone as much as you can. Catch yourself when you are needlessly picking it up and drifting away to no place in particular. Carry a book with you and read more! You will be surprised how much better you feel after just one day of getting off these negative influences.

A quick morning movement routine with a stretch and workout gets the blood flowing and makes me feel alive. It is important for me not to dread this and have it be this big ordeal where it becomes something I don't like doing. It is pleasant and I know once it's done I feel great.

Out into nature with my dog is the next move. Walking outside for me is so awesome with my dog Blue. She is a rescue dog from Louisiana and bred for hunting so she really needs to run daily. I am so blessed to live close to a dog beach where I take her every morning and throw the ball as I walk. I realize I am very lucky but the point is getting out and walking in the fresh air every day! It will change your morning.

Next, I make sure I am food conscious and eating clean for this 7-day period. I like to juice while I do this and intermittently fast to take off a couple of pounds. I avoid processed food and grudgingly give up my ice cream! I cut up cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, red onions, avocado, and add some almonds and sesame seeds to it in a Tupperware container for times I need a quick fix to fight off hunger.

Having something on my calendar for adventure is so important for my well being. I try to have at least 3 a week on a local level to do or at least look forward to. This week I went to the beach with my daughter and we took bikes out on the boardwalk for 2 hours and had a blast in the breeze and watching people! Played golf for a couple of hours in the afternoon yesterday and it was so nice to be outside. I haven't played in years. I recommend planning something bigger and dreaming up your activities as well. My daughter and I are heading to Joshua Tree for 3 nights next week and it is stirring up my positivity just having it to look forward to.

Finally, I like to have a brief spot on my checklist to review my day and just speak to what I am happy and grateful for. Just a quick couple minute check-in finishes off my day and lets me put closure on the goal of staying in my good life frame of mind!

I hope you find this to be an interesting and refreshing way to bring you up in this very difficult and crazy time we are all living in! There is a 7-Day Reboot Program for you that is turnkey with a checklist and suggestions on my website johnlohrenz.com and I hope you join our community as my book is released in January 2021!

All my best!
