Updated: Jan 4, 2021

Happy New Year! We are all very relieved the calendar now says 2021! Let's have the best year of lives.

Get off to a great new year mapping out a formula you can rely on!

I wanted to share a preview of my new book The Prosperity Project in a series to help in planning for a new year. 2020 took us all for a wild ride and it is time to get off that roller coaster and move on! This is Part 1 of 3 in the series

Introduction

Prosperity is a word that can mean different things for different people. A person may feel their most prosperous when they are accumulating more financial wealth, while another may feel it when helping others or making a difference in their communities. For the purpose of what we are looking to achieve, let’s look at it as the ability to find joy and happiness in our daily lives. The ability to flourish under difficult conditions and thrive on great days.

The importance of goal setting cannot be overstated and will be a critical part of this process.. Setting goals for yourself allows you to get a bird’s eye view of the current state of your life, decide on which areas need improvement, and then take action upon them. They give you a sense of accountability, structure and accomplishment.

However, far too often, we place disproportionate value on one area of our life or one goal. We tell ourselves, “when I reach my goal of X, I will be happy.”

Here are some common ones:

“When I lose 30 lbs I will finally be happy”

“When I get married, I will finally be happy.”

“When I have enough money to retire, I will finally be happy.”

The truth that many people forget along the way, is that all of these things matter. Your health, wealth, relationships, self-growth and sense of adventure are all part of the equation for a happy and prosperous life.

Too often, we see people get tunnel vision on achieving their goals and they neglect the other parts of their life that have already made them so happy to begin with. Happiness is not some destination in the far off future. You are not guaranteed another day, so the only time and place you can be truly prosperous is now.

The goal of the Prosperity Project is to give you a formula that you can use everyday to make sure you are at your best for yourself, those around you, and your work. It is so much more than a wellness checkup or a financial plan. The point of the project is to provide you with tangible tools so you can develop a complete personalized and achievable plan for prosperity.

Each layer builds upon the last. The first three are what we call “The Big Three,” which include health, wealth and relationships. These three form the core foundation of the pyramid and are critical to get right. They cover your basic necessities, and without them in balance, you will be very hard pressed to live a prosperous life.

The next two that follow as we ascend the pyramid, growth and adventure, are things that will only enrich your life more. While you can probably attain a certain level of happiness without them, they are the things that will bring fun and creativity into your life.

Lastly, legacy is the final layer at the top and one that we may not think about as often as the others. This layer centers around one question: “How do you want to be remembered?” Understanding this question will help you create guidelines in your life that allow you to work towards this goal.

Health + Wealth + Relationships = Base level happiness

Base level happiness + growth + adventure + legacy = Prosperity

Part 2 will discuss the Big 3 of health, wealth, and relationships
